Healthcare
Healthcare in Idaho is at an all-time low, facing provider shortages and insurance coverage issues. Improving healthcare in Idaho is significant because it can ultimately result in better overall well-being and quality of life for the people. By bettering healthcare services, citizens can have easier access to medical care. This could result in better health outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and a healthier community in general. By improving health care, we can even attract and potentially persuade healthcare professionals to keep working with better working conditions. This includes improving economic development and contributing to a happier and healthier state. I mean, Idaho ranked 23rd in the 2023 commonwealth fund scorecard on state health system performance. Knowing we can be much better. We plan to tackle this issue by developing and supporting community health programs that focus on health education, preventive care, and chronic disease management to improve overall health outcomes. As well as applying loan and forgiveness programs, higher salaries, and other motivations in order to attract healthcare professionals to work in
rural areas. This will also include working on expanding Medicaid and other health insurance programs to cover more people. This will help to make healthcare itself more affordable. Funding will be covered by applying for federal grants that specifically aim towards improving healthcare services, such as those from the health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
i. Vaccines save lives. We hope to make a majority of vaccines mandatory and have others be very strongly encouraged. While we can understand the fear that people may feel when being administered vaccines, we believe that if we can educate
the populus on how vaccines work and how they will affect the population, we hope to reduce anxiety and paranoia towards vaccines and increase immunization rates.
ii. Our bodies our choices does not only apply to abortions it also applies to gender affirming care. We protect trans kids and believe that it is their choice to receive these procedures. Like with all health care, we want to make procedures such as these more affordable and accessible.
Everyone has the right to bodily autonomy, and that includes reproductive freedom. The US government does not have a place in regulating people’s bodies. Any individual should have access to the healthcare they need, including an abortion. Access to birth control and contraceptives should be widely available in order to minimize the number of unwanted pregnancies, but if an unwanted pregnancy occurs, or if the life of the person carrying the child is at risk, then the option to abort should be available. Proper Sex Education should be provided in schools to lessen the number of unwanted pregnancies as well, if people are educated then they will know how to be safe. Banning abortions has never gotten rid of them, it has only made them more dangerous for the people getting them. Lack of access to abortions causes an increase in children in foster care, families in poverty, and mental health issues in those who are denied access. Our party wants to make an Idaho where everyone can feel safe and secure. We will work toward providing proper education and preventative measures to those who seek them, and making doctors feel secure enough in their positions to provide the assistance that people need.
i. While we fight for this right, we also strive to make alternative options such as adoption and foster care more accessible and affordable. By doing this we hope to lower abortion rates and increase adoptions. No child should be living in a home or
facility where they are not being cared for properly nor feel valued, and no mother should be in a situation where she is neglected and put in danger.
ii. In Idaho, currently the only exception to abortion are for people who are victims of rape or incest. These people get first priority when in consideration for an abortion. In Title 18, Chapter 66, Section 3 of Idaho Legislature, sex offenders cannot be imprisoned for over 15 years. This is unacceptable. Rape is a crime. Incest is a crime. Sexual assault is a crime. We do not believe in any exceptions when these crimes are committed. We believe that sex offenders deserve to be labeled as such and
imprisoned for life. Plea deals, shortened sentences, and good behavior rewards are exempt from these convicts.
Education
Schools provide essential functions in our society and should be treated as the critically important institutions that they are. Every dollar spent in the name of education is a dollar invested in the bright future of Idaho. As such, we believe that it is the right of every child in Idaho to receive quality education in a functional facility. Currently, Idaho ranks 50th in the entire nation in terms of money spent on education (Hanson). In contrast, Idaho is expected to close out 2024 with a 52.5 million dollar surplus (Idaho.gov). We propose that that surplus be diverted into our education system. To help that money get used productively, we also propose that the state of Idaho change legislation to allow school boards to pass levees and bonds with a simple majority rather than the current two thirds requirement. While we understand the need to ensure that only the best proposals are carried out for our students, Idaho is one of only two states that require a two thirds majority, which means that the system
is outdated and ineffective. It is our goal to make sure no student is freezing in the winter, threatened by falling ceiling tiles, or forced to walk through puddles in the hallways.
Environment
The Idaho landscape has resources that are plentiful and precious. From topsoil for agriculture to the quality of the water we drink, the resources in the area are essential to supplying the means of life of citizens in the state, but also the world. As
representatives of the people of this state, we would aim to protect our natural resources to maintain the health of the people and their crops. Implementing conservatory practices throughout the state can reduce soil erosion, increase water
supplies, protect wildlife/ wildlife habitats, improve water quality, and reduce damages caused from floods and other natural disasters (USDA). As a party, we would aim to implement programs to educate and ensure resource abundance, and also
contribute funding to ensure the resources can be maintained. With the maintenance of our world, it will allow our farmers and ranchers to thrive, give jobs to those working at waste and water treatment centers, give jobs to construction workers building resource infrastructure, and will educate the average
citizen how to better contribute to the planet. We see the impacts of humans on our planet, and we aim to help humans collaborate with it, to get what we need without destroying things in the process.
Union/Workforce
It is the right of every working citizen to have the opportunity to join and participate in a worker’s union. It is also the right of every working citizen to share equally the rights and protections granted under the law. All possible efforts should be put into protecting and expanding these rights. Unions and workers' rights help protect and ensure prosperity for every working person. Unions help improve working conditions, promote equality in the workplace, and improve the wages of the workers. Our party would spread awareness of unions and crack down on violations of union contracts. Our party would also legislate new
rights for workers, including a minimum wage, more minimum paid time off, and the securing of LGBTQ+ rights within the workplace and hiring process.
